Music and theatre festivals

It would be difficult to talk about music festivals in Manchester without mentioning Parklife, an event that takes over Heaton Park in early June and fills it with the world’s biggest music acts, just in time for the end of summer exams.

Later on in the summer, there is the 24:7 Theatre Festival, which supports up and coming playwrights and productions.

Literature

The Manchester Literature Festival is an inspiring celebration of literature that happens in term time, usually in October. Many of its events are conveniently located in the Contact theatre, University Place or Manchester Museum, so the talks are easy to fit in around your lectures.

Food and drink

Every September, the Manchester Food and Drink festival takes over the city. With events such as the Greatest Manchester Beers fest and the Great Manchester Bake Off, you’ll never be bored (or hungry).

Other festivals

Throughout the year, there is a festival in Manchester for almost every interest. Why not head to Dig the City during the summer for gardening and green smoothies? Alternatively, you can celebrate all things cutting edge at the Manchester Science Festival
