Food and drink

Quick bite and a coffee

Whether you want to sit down and chat with friends, or just want a place to quietly sit with your book or laptop, Manchester city centre is full of places to grab a coffee or a snack, and simply relax.

There are innumerable Starbucks cafés, Costa Coffees and Caffé Neros dotted around the city.

Or, if you’re after something a little more eclectic, the Northern Quarter, located just past Piccadilly Gardens, boasts a large variety of independent cafes. Places like Home Sweet Home and Sugar Junction offer home-made cakes and milkshakes, whilst the Nordic inspired Takk is the home of simple, tasty food and inspiring interior design.

Pubs and bars

From bars that serve mocktails, to whiskey specialists, to breweries, if there is one thing that Manchester isn’t short of, it’s places to have a drink. As well as the many bars and pubs on Oxford Road, there are places to drink throughout the city that vary widely in price and atmosphere.

During winter, you can stroll through the Christmas markets and end your evening at The Oast House. Nearby, there is a cluster of bars on Deansgate Locks or there's two of The Alchemist bars within the city centre if you want unique cocktails.

Takeaways and fast food

If you’re in need of some fast food, or something that you can easily take home, you won’t be short of options. There are so many Subway restaurants in Manchester that they even offer a delivery service, and the Arndale Food Court has plenty of fast food outlets, conveniently located in the same space.

Celebrations and dinners

If you’re looking for somewhere to take your parents on graduation day, are celebrating your birthday, or just want to have a luxurious dining experience, there are many restaurants in the centre of Manchester to meet your needs.

From spacious underground restaurants to tapas bars and independent restaurants in Chinatown, there’s something to suit every taste.
